What is Blue Moon beer considered? ……?
Is it a micro-brew or is it owned by one of the big companies?
First off, Boston Beer Company absolutely IS considered craft – they are listed by the Brewer’s Association as the largest volume craft brewer in the US. Bear in mind their volume output doesn’t even equal 1/3 of 1% of Anheuser Busch’s volume.
Blue Moon, as others alluded to, is a Belgian-STYLE White Ale. Essentially an American Wheat Ale.
It is brewed by “Blue Moon Brewing Company” which is just another DBA of MillerCoors (since they are the same company in North America now).
Plus, the majority of the Blue Moon we get in the US comes from the Molson brewery in Toronto, while a little bit comes from Virginia – none from Colorado.
Definitely not a micro-brew; it’s what we in the beer business call a “pseudo-craft.”
