Opening with an introduction entitled “Hunting the Virtuous – and How to Clean and Skin Them”, the author provides his own comments on the people, places and events behind the newspaper headlines, before launching into an account of the Gulf War. Beginning with a concise history of the Middle East, he delivers a day-to-day chronicle of the tedium of waiting for war in the Saudi desert, signing off…

Do UK citizens like Americans who move to their country?

Okay, I’m an American about to graduate university, and I have a job opportunity that would require me to move (legally, lol) to London.

I figured I’d fit in well because I play soccer (look, I never understood why we call it that instead of football either) for USC, I like to drink beer… a lot…, I prefer cold rainy weather, and I love and respect the English culture.

But I’m really curious to know, from a Brit’s perspective, if I’d be accepted or if people will outcast me since I’m a f**king American, lol– since I know in Mexico that’s their train of thought.

Lol, well most Americans get on well here in the UK. I have a few American friends and my fave Professor at College was American! He was great fun!

They ARE teased a lot, called “Yanks” and generally get the mickey taken out of them a bit albeit in a friendly way.

And every now and then you’ll be pinned to the wall by some saddo 21 year old University Socialist and asked to justify the actions of your Government in great detail.

You will also to challenged to drink “real” British ale rather than poofy stuff you call beer aka Budweiser (aka “beer flavoured soft drink with sugar and sweeteners”).

But if you can put up with that then, yes you’ll be accepted and make lots of friends. The girls will like your American accent so you should have no trouble “pulling” (scoring).

Tip: DON’T call it “Soccer”!! That will make you unpopular! Its football or “footie”. Don’t go on about David Beckham all the time and *Don’t* pretend to support Man(chester) United, especially if you are IN Manchester. Find out who your local team is when you move here and support them. Don’t punch the air and say “whoop whoop” or “ALLLRIGHT!” when you approve of anything. And try to learn the correct words ie its not a sidewalk its a PAVEMENT etc because that will get you teased otherwise!! But its affectionate teasing.

Most Americans are welcome here, they are usually educated people with good jobs who are contributing to this country, rather than penniless scroungers who are just here to get rich at our expense. Its that type of immigrant who tends to get the average Brit’s back up . . .

And I agree with Sceptic (although I usually don’t) we do have plenty of dentists here, we just don’t tend to spend money on cosmetic dentistry which is why we don’t all have day-glo white superstraight smiles. Doesn’t mean our teeth are “bad”, just they are nore natural looking. Superwhite smiles are seen as a bit fake and insincere over here! So no to the “teeth” jokes please . . .!

Leeds Castle in Kent has a history of 900 years and is set on two islands on the River Len – it was the home of royalty, lords and ladies.

The Saxon Lord of the Manor – Esledes Robert de Creve Coeur – built this castle in 1119. Then, in 1278 passed into the hands of royalty and became part of the Queen of the solution England's dowry.

Over a period of the next 150 years was held by Medieval Queens, as Eleanor of Castile, Margaret of France, Isabella of France, Joan of Navarre, Anne of Bohemia and Catherine de Valois.

During Tudor Henry VIII used to visit here quite often, with his wife, Queen Catherine Aragon, on the cloth of gold tournament.

Son of Henry King Edward VI gave one of his courtiers for his excellent service and was subsequently used as a garnish, a prison and a nursing home to different families like Culpepers, Fairfax and Wykeham Martins.

The stone bridge to walk across to enter the castle yet looks the same as it did in the 13th century.

In the past 900 years there have been many other changes however, make several rulers. Norman has bases and Glorieta was built by Edward 1 and later updated during the time of Henry VIII.

The Tudor tower and 19th Century Country House – was substantially reformed in the 20th century.

The last owner of the castle, and Lady Olive Baillie and leaves no scar.

She was an heiress to a fortune of America's side his mother and the daughter of an English Lord, was married three times. It was during her second marriage to Arthur Wilson Filmer that bought this castle in 1926. She made a renewal complete and brought the best architects and designers to create an elegant French country residence for herself.

She filled the castle with valuable art and also antiques he had collected from his various tours all over Europe. It also gave the parties in which many lords, politicians and movie stars to come regularly. They all enjoyed the New Castle Movie theaters, swimming pools and tennis courts, golf courses and used to see their collections of animals like birds and waterfowl, zebras and llamas and, of course, the usual horses and dogs.

The tower housing the religious recluse, the Maiden Tower, built in Tudor times, as bakery Castle brewery, and is used to produce beer that is consumed by all during the dinner as a safe alternative to water.

During Baillie time did the 'neighborhood degree "to take guests to a home cinema and a smoking floor. Later it became the home of his youngest daughter until 2003 and now used for special functions and exhibitions.

There is nothing comparable in flight can be as large as a flight in air balloon, especially if you fly over Leeds Castle, as it presents an impressive view from above.

You can fly here a little after sunrise or before sunset which makes it an exceptional experience which will remember all her life. Balloon flights take place between 1 April and 1 November, and flight package includes the flight itself, post flight celebrations and a certificate and entry to the gardens of Leeds Castle and Grounds.
