Angling with Yuengling, a Black and Tan Story
June 19th, 2007 by meister
Well, it’s officially summer, now that I’ve busted out the ol’ Popeil Pocket Fisherman and started planting myself at various bridges around Capitol City here. I tried to decide what to toss in the cooler, and figured that I should take along a brew that would be quite tasty with the type of gamefish I was going after. Since I was going after channel catfish or flathead, I decided something definitely heavy on the malt would be appropriate. Ergo, I chose Yuengling’s Black and Tan as a fishing companion. After all, nothing tastes better than channel cat in a nice beer or porter batter, and this was a bit of both. As I sat there waiting for the fish to bite, I did find myself getting quite warm, so I popped a top, and gave the B&T a sip. I would have to say this is definitely a hearty brew more suited for cooler weather. After sipping for some time, I did notice that this brew definitely snuck up on me and produced heavy eyelids. When I woke from my quick snooze, I found that my little Pocket Fisherman had taken leave of it’s perch and was stuck in a spot just under the bridge railing. After reaching down to retreive same, I discovered that the line had snapped at some point, and so whatever I did have on the line was now gone. Just as well, however, since I didn’t have any Yuengling left to make batter with anyway by that point. I think I might just try to march through everything Yuengling that might possibly go with native midwestern gamefish. Crappies with lager, walleye with Premium, bass with ale, and Mississippi catfish with straight Porter. Will update as schedule allows.
If you’ve got a source for procuring Yeungling in Iowa, you’d best be letting me know, pronto.
My thoughts exactly.
Sorry, gotta buddy who drives cross country and drags it in for me. But if y’all talk real nice…
