Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout

Bell’s Brewery is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The Kalamazoo Stout reminds me strongly of the stout I used to homebrew back in the day. It pours an opaque black. Light enters this beer but it does not exit. I wonder where it goes? The nose hints of chocolate licorice. It starts with a coffee note that is surprisingly sweet and balanced, and finishes with the bitter bite from the hops. A coffee aftertaste lingers for a while, inviting you to take another sip.
This is a fine stout, although I think the cooler months would lend themselves to the consumption of multiple bottles of this beer. It is a wee bit too heavy for summer drinking.
