pete’s wicked ale

I picked this one up I while back after realizing it’s been years since I had a Pete’s. It’s always been one of those standard brews that isn’t extravagant or complex, but is still very good in it’s own right. Pete’s calls this a Brown Ale, but don’t think Newcastle. It’s actually an American Brown Ale, which means it’s maltier and less bitter than an english version like Newcastle.
It pours a reddish brown color and has a strong caramel aroma. It’s a very smooth, medium-bodied beer. The flavor is sweet, with caramel malt being predominant, and only a light hop flavor. It makes a good solid, “anytime” beer.
Pete’s and Sam Adams are beers that sort of got me on the road to beer snobbery. They’re not bad breweries, but I tend to think of them as starter beers. And it’s been ages since I’ve had a Pete’s; I might have to pick some up tomorrow.
