august schell firebrick

schell-firebrick.jpgSchell’s Firebrick is an all malt, Vienna style lager. This style was developed in Vienna, Austria, but the two best-known examples are Mexican beers: Dos Equis and Negra Modelo. Apparently, the beer lore is that as the style waned in Europe, brewers from Vienna introduced the style in Mexico. This may not be entirely accurate, as this article points out.

But I digress. Schell’s version of this beer is a nice clear, amber color with lots of carbonation. The flavor is smooth and clean, but not as malty and a little thin compared to other verrsions I’ve sampled. There is a slight bitterrness at the end. Overall, a pretty decent beer, but not anything special.
